deloreshedrick Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I am new to osCommerce and a novice when it comes to websites. I have set up my website and also installed osCommerce thru my webhost provider, WebsiteSource. I have a few questions: 1. There is a warning message in pink at the top of my pages that says "Installation directory exists at (I won't type in the directory for security reasons)/install. Please remove the directory for security reasons." Do I delete this directory or move it somewhere else? 2. It also says that I should secure the administration tool. Quote "It is important to secure the Administration Tool as there is currently no security implementation available." How do I do this? 3. I already have my website on line using my domain name. Can I just create hyperlinks in my website so that the customer can get to the osCommerce catalog to order my products? 4. On a side note, I do not want to have a picture to the right of my categories in my catalog. When I'm looking at the catogories, it is under catalog/index.php/cPath/21, /22, /23, and /24. What file and where to I comment out the pictures? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!! Delores
satish Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Hello, 1)For point 1 just delete installation directory(YOU always keep a backup of the software that was used for installation). 2)For point 2:to protect admin eith use .htaccess or password protect directory icon in cpanel and move to admin folder and protect. or add admin acccess level protection contribution. 3)for point 3 :Yes You can do that. 4)If You mean right column then in includes/right_column.php You block some included box files. oscarmaya Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Hey quick question: I'm getting the following message: "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/osc/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file." Although I'm pretty sure that you already answered it in point 2, I have no idea what .htaccess or cpanels are? Can you please elaborate how to fix this. Sorry for the ignorance, I'm really new at this. Oscar
