Multilingual SEO - mystified

Hi All

 

I run the shop www(dot)scalecar-garage(dot)com.

 

We are in the process of translating the shop into english, and while testing the shop on a test-server, something strikes me:

 

When I activate english, unique URLs including the selected language are created for the individual products - wonderful.

 

But how about all of the other pages like the front page, profile, contact_us etc. ?

 

Translating the page into english will help our foreign customers shop, but on the agenda is also getting af higher rank on "model cars" (and in the future on any other translation of the same).

But how will google "handle" the translation of the non-product pages ? Will it index both the danish, english, swedish, ... version or will I have to figure out some way to make unique urls for those pages as well?

 

I hope my question is clear :huh:

Also, if you have catalog description and titles in one language, does the osCommerce translate to the other language? Or do we actually have to have mulitiple catalog entries (one for each language supported) ?

oscommerce translates all pages. you have only to add definitions or pages language files instead of hardcoded words.

No, oscommerce doesn't do any translation. It just displays whatever text you have written in the laguage files. If is up to you to provide the translation, if it is not already there.
