Jlyon10 Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Well I guess I am really dense. On my webhost osCommerce was installed on my site automatically. I know the directory and everything. But what I am confused about is what to do next. Where do I go next? How do I create my store. What do I sign on to start doing the amin stuff?

It might not be installed but just loaded in your web space. Check out the route to the oscommerce folder - probably yourwebhost/catalog then go to it in a browser. You should then get the installation pages show up where you can create the admin username and password. You will also need to set up a MySQL database in your hosting control panel before you start the installation.

What do I sign on to start doing the amin stuff? The first thing you should do is password protect your admin directory. This may already be done, depending on the version that was installed, although it is probably an older version which means it is not protected. Then login to your admin at http://your-domain-name.com/admin/ and start filling in the details of the site (site name, email and so on). Click on the catalog and start adding categories and products. That should get you started but you can always post a question on the forums. But, if you do, don't make the mistake of asking a bunch of questions at one time. That may be easier for you but it will either be ignored or only partially answered. Jlyon10 Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 If that is the case, look at the first thread in the installation and configuration forum. OK, My path is https://xx.xx.x.xx:xxxx/webhost/virtualhost...commerce2/admin but If I type that in a browser it says the requested page could not be found.
Jlyon10 Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 OK, I have gotten farther. I key in my domain/oscommerce/admin and a sign in box comes up but since I haven't configured this yet it won't take a passowrd?
