Multiple Category Drop-Downs

Hi all,

I am looking to find smt. like this-

What I want/am trying to do: Each level of categories gets its own drop-down. The 1st drop-down will be the root categories, the 2nd will be root's sub-categories, the 3rd with be the sub-categories sub-categories, and so on.

That instead of the usual category box w. links in the left column I'd have the drop down menu...! I need this since I've got a lot of products (car tyres) and this seems like the only way it's not gonna get too confusing.

I've gone through most of this forum, searched w. dif. terms read topics and so on, "no go".. "no how"... So if anyone has ANY idea where to look or where to begin, please help me out.
