onClick behaviour on categories links

Hi

I'd like to add a simple onClick behaviour to the links in the category info box links so that an image pops up when the link is clicked. Closing the popup allows the customer to then see the product listings.

This should be a simple javascript behaviour but where can I add it to the links.

I'm sure there is a simple answer but a nudge in the right direction would be much appreciated.
