Using osCommerce for Membership Management

Hello,

My associates and I would like to use osCommerce to not only sell merchandise on our website, but also use it to sell subscriptions to our website's membership features. In other words, They could buy a tangible item like a book, then also add a membership to our featured articles section of the site which is password protected. Is there a way to have osCommerce change the .htaccess file in our protected directory after the customer?s credit information is verified? It would be nice if it added their username/password for osCommerce to the protected directories .htaccess file automatically. If not we?re going to have to use a separate Membership management software package to bill and sell memberships.

Thanks

I'd go for a seperate solution.

osCommerce does not handle anything like what you need. You can code it in though.

And I wouldn't go for .htaccess files as it is hard to maintain.

Why not use a database for the authentication?

Much more flexible.

We have primarily focused on physical products. Virtual products are also now supported but work in this area is still pending (shipping modules are not needed when only virtual products are ordered).

Subscription based products would also not use the shipping modules, however it is in a slightly different arena than what the virtual products are in.

There has been interest internally to offer such types of products, however we'd rather work on what we now support to have it fully functional before introducing other product types.

Right...I also needed the membership/subscription capability, but have learned that a separate solution would work fine in conjuntion with osCommerce. If you're interested, I am looking into DreamAccount: http://www.dreamcost.com I will also suggest to them to have an osCommerce module since they do take suggestions.

We built an oscommerce solution to sell memberships at crimescene.com. I am upgrading the system so it integrates amember, a membership sales program that is similar to dreamaccount but much better. And better than what we built.

When I pay for the integration and make it work, I'll post here re making it available.

I am looking for the same thing. Were you ever able to make this available?

Thanks in advance!
