Measha06 Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 Never had a robots.txt file so not sure what to do with it! Liz You should do some searching about robots.txt. They are usefull. Theres other ways too, using the headtags, but we wont go there yet. I use ultimate seo urls and google sitemap. They were both originally wrote by the same person, who, far as I know, made all his code compatable with one another. Follow the community build: BS3 to osCommerce Responsive from the Get Go! Liz robots.txt is just a text file in your catalog root called (would you believe it) robots.txt. There is a general agreement between the major search (adhered to by the majors) bots that they view this file before deciding to index your site. Re: site map whoever said you can't doesn't know what they are talking about. Try my files from this post today .. http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?s=&...t&p=1209708 I can't promise that they will work but they are what my sites' google XML is based on .. you can't lose .. submit them to google webmaster tools and it will tell you if they're wrong. Thanks for advice again. I had created an XML file before reading all this and submitted it and it would appear google has used it and not reported any errors but I only have 87 pages indexed out of 500! Nothing new there tbh. Google takes its time. Pagerank these days is considered a bit of a "nothing" but from my experience it at least ensures "some" depth of indexing. Maybe get some more site related, good anchor text links in. Always helps and never hurts. Perhaps a high quality link into your deeper category links would do the trick.
