Consumer Electronics website, still needs meta tags etc etc, which im finding rather hard to add.

 

i still have the powered by oscommerce at the bottom of my website.

 

All constructive critisisms, and praise welcome!

The header area is too wide for my screen (1024x768), which causes a horizontal scroll bar to appear.

 

In the breadcrumbs, 'Catalog' links to http://gadget-net.com.html/ which doesn't work. You don't need a 'Top' link as the site is in the root.

 

On the product pages I was getting this error with the add to cart button:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/ardley/public_html/product_info.php on line 28

But the buy now button on the category listings worked fine.

 

I couldn't work out where you're based, which would bother me if I was shopping at your site. I didn't see any returns info on the Shipping & Returns page.

 

English is the only language so you could drop the languages infobox.

 

Most of the above points are minor and probably easily sorted. Overall I liked it.

your banner is too long for 1024x768. 1024x768 is still quite popular for screen resolution. The table on shipping & returns is even bigger, can you make this percentages instead of fixed pixels?

i don't fully understand your link exchange program, but that's not important. there is a few double spaces in the description though.

some of your subcategories are too long for the box, so the new line is on the joining line.

In addition to what they mentioned above, I would probably remove the bottom bar where it has the number of requests. Also, at the bottom where you have all the keywords for SEO I would probably make that font the same color as the background. Another minor thing, some of your category names are too long for the boxes. You might want to change that. You have to change the no SSL thing. You can get a cheap certificate here for $12.88 or here for $14.95 :thumbsup:

A thumbnail contribution is really recommended to sort out ugly browser scaling jaggies.

 

Changing currencies also gives the http://gadget-net.com.html/ page not found error as it is not a proper url. If you do manage to change the currency you have the currency bug that allows you to modify the url changing EUR to Eur and therefore get 0 prices across your whole cart. (If you could actually buy something because clicking add to cart gives an error).

 

China should have a capital C. You are also missing commas between the range of products supplied.

I am not sure these lines are really necessary, they certainly should not be split over two bullet points and I am not sure they actually give any reassurance to new customers.

 

Stuffing the alt tag with keywords is not a good idea in my opinion. You would be better served spending the time installing header tags controller in order to use the meta description, google does use meta descriptions for listing results if the keyword is contained.

 

I struggle to see the benefit of running adsense ads on an ecommerce site, do you really have that many visitors to your site at present in order to make decent money out of the ads? If I did have that sort of volume of traffic I would be wanting them to buy off me not someone else :P

sorry i was using a wider res to make my website, i will chnage this.

this is a bug i had, when i installed SEO urls every link, linking back to my homepage had a .html at the end, i hvae no idea how to solve this

yes they are keywords, i will delete this, or maybe link them to pages in my website? and have alot less

i know of this, and i am trying to get much better pictures from the manufactures(these are supplied by them).

im sure this a error in osc, because they all have the same name, or it may be from someone who tried to fix my SQL when i transfered domains. again if anyone knows how to fix this it would be great!

thank you telling me! how would i solve this? i did have all the major currencies but when i put SEO urls in, it didn't work, so i now i only use $. and this that error, i don't know how to get rif of it. if you could tell me, it would be GREAT!

i've always had problems installing meta tag contribs. i'll try the header tag one, if that doesn;t work i'll ask for help.

It appears to be a rather stock implementation of osCommerce, which isn't necessarily bad, though I see you've added a change on the "home" page which is nice, though I would do something with the bullets - little too overpowering. Also there is no "close" button or link on your popup images, might want to do something about that.

 

One thing that I really liked, maybe more-so from a developer standpoint, was the "popular searches" string just under the top menu bar. I'll have to look into something like this for my site. ;)

 

Just need to "spruce up" the template a tad.

All that Keyword Spam at the bottom of your homepage will get you hammered and maybe even blacklisted by Search Engines.

thnaks for your post! great help! i agree in every point you make, i will try chnage these soon as possible! and as for the popular search string, i found that from another website which uses osc (but has no osc link, like many) i just use it for SEO.

and as for the templatte design, i also agree, but im no pro designer so i find thatslightly difficult but fun! ;)

thansk for your post also! im not sure what you mean by the error. i have SEO urls set as "true" in my admin, should this be fasle?

and i have tried to install cDynamic meta tags, but im not sure if they have worked, qwould they run with SEO urls? is there a way of tesing weather it has worked or not? and yes i will remove them and make them not just a string of meta keywords!
