multiple ship-to addresses

I just stumbled across this project and it seems to be very close to what I need. It's finally time to replace that old battle axe Mive Merchant! This seems to have most of the features I need (and some I'd never even thought of), and since it's PHP it shouldn't be too difficult to customize.

One feature that's not currently included but absolutely essential for me is multiple ship-to addresses. I'm the webmaster of a foundation that accepts online donations for it's many projects in honor of individuals and sends personalized cards explaining the gifts to each recipient. As a result, most of our orders that have multiple items are going to different people and addresses. Since I'm just starting to investigate osCommerce, I don't know if the first thing that I wanna do is to alter such a fundamental part of the table structure. Nor do I wanna reinvent the wheel.

Is anyone working on a multiple ship-to option? Is this being considered for the next release? This would be a major advantage over other available programs, and for me it's a make-or-break requirement.

One question-

Are the ship-to addresses something that the user puts in? Or something that you already have and know?

The ship-to addresses are entered by the users.

Basically, it works like this: A customer (donor) chooses one or more projects to donate to. We call these donations "gifts", since they are specific things (such as a cataract surgery or training a midwife), and you could think of them as any other product in a catalog. The groups that do this work get the money, of course, but the addresses that the customer gives us are for the person that the donation is being given in honor of. So, for example, I might make a cataract surgery donation in honor of my Aunt Linda and a midwifery training donation in honor of my friend Susan, and the foundation sends cards to Aunt Linda and Susan from me saying what was donated and including a personal message. Sometimes people also give physical gifts (t-shirts, etc.) along with these cards.

The closest analogy I can think of in the regular shopping world would be something like an online bookstore, where a customer might buy 10 books and ship them to several different people all in one order. So that means that the ship-to address needs to be an attribute of or linked to each line item of an order, rather than to the order as a whole. The Address Book feature in osCommerce could be really useful here, since it would keep customers from having to type in the same address over and over again if they're sending multiple items to one person (say 3 of the 10 books to AUnt Linda, 3 to Susan...).

Oh - there is one more detail that does come up with multiple ship-to addresses that I didn't mention. It also means that shipping calculations need to be made per-address and not per-order. Since per-address doesn't necessarily mean per-item (two or more items might be going to the same address), that does complicate the equation somewhat.

I'm looking for something very similar. As some of you are probably realizing right now at Christmas time, people are buying more than one thing on your site and shipping each item to a separate person. I see this first hand atleast 5 times a day with My Gift Basket Business.

I'd like the need for an account to be transparent to the user. something about having to login and sign up for an account scares people off when they are just trying to buy a gift for someone. The checkout process should be exactly how http://Amazon.com does multiple shipping addresses with gift cards withing the constraints of OSC.

I'll trade implementation or logo, site, and software design work if you really know php well. I'll provide mockups and some sort of funcional spec.

Here are some sample sites of my work:

http://bigredbow.net (osc)

http://srh.com (osc)

http://careercast.com (corp)

http://tomcoh.com/novare (corp)

http://tomcoh.com/speed.nbci (portal)

http://grasshoppersake.com (boutique)

http://tomcoh.com (art)

http://www.jdbphoto.com (art)

http://tomcoh.com/gd (web app)

http://tomcoh.com/rpc (web app)

http://tomcoh.com/rpc2 (web app)

http://tomcoh.com/frontier (web app)

http://cjrealty.careercast.com/texis/realSearch (web app)

It would need to be designed for my current system (new checkout/early nov.) then spun into a contrib for everyone else. That is a requirement.

Private Message me if you are interested.

Thanks,

This was a super easy mod to make, took a whomping 2 hours. I'll post it in the contribs when I polish up the notes.

NinjaTech, or others out there -

Has anyone come up with a solution for multiple ship-to addresses for OSC?

Thanks...

I already finished a project for multiple shipping addresses for a dropship site.

Not sure weather to release it as it takes alot of time to detail such a large modifcation.

Hi,

I decided to try the modifcation again, but this time I'm going to see if I can do it with just altering a shipping module.

I'm just on the last part.

Hopefully I can get this finished soon.

Any chance you've posted that yet? It would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would like this too, any idea of when you'll be posting it?
