dinnerbucket Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Hi All, I have changed the permission for /catalog/includes/configure.php to 444 and I am still receiving the following error message: "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/tpfenner/public_html/jacksstore/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file." Is there a way to disable the error messages all together because I can't seem to get this one to go away! Thanks for your help.

dinnerbucket Posted February 15, 2008 Author Posted February 15, 2008 Hello,It should be 644 not 444 I had it set to 644, but still received the error message, so I changed it to 444 to see if that would make it go away. I receive the error message regardless if the permissions are set to 644 or 444, so I will switch back to 644 now. Thanks for your help.
FIMBLE Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 How about the Admin / includes / configure? Is that one done also? Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions

germ Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 If you've been using an FTP program to change permissions, ditch it and login and use your site's Control Panel to change permissions. FTP is notorious for NOT accomplishing this task. <_< If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. When you change the file permissions do you check that the file permissions have actually set? The reason I ask is that if a file is owned by root you will not be able to change permissions (unless logged in as root.) Who's server is it? who has root access? What program are you using to change permissions? Thanks but it's fixed now. Got a program called Putty which did the job. I've never had problems changing file permissions before, but obviously something changed over the weekend, and not just my host (streamline) disabling register_globals. Now I can't change permissions using ws-ft pro or their own file manager. If anyone else is having this problem I recommend Putty, it's free and it works. It's free and I got it from here. http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/
