Measha06 Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 As I understand if you repeat pages and repeat text you either get not listed or bad points etc. in the search engines. Now with osCommerce when you put items in several different categories that automatically repeats the same pages in each category you apply them to - now my point of concern is if you have multiple categories, like I have made, to try and group products into relevant categories for relevant products to a condition to make it easier for the customer because those pages are repeated anything up to 11 times will this be affecting the rankings? Perhaps it would be easier for you to look at my site to see what I mean http://www.naturesnaturalbeauty.com. Should I devise another page to direct customers to products and make the customers life easier and remove the categories so I haven't got repetative pages or does this not affect the rankings in this way? voided Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 when you put items in several different categories that automatically repeats the same pages True, but then again if you want to have multiple categories for sorting (ie. product A can be in main products category and also in products for women category) i would suggest adding extra fields to your products (like gender) and then use that to make an SQL query to list the products by genders. This way you would effectively have multiple categories but you can make the products point to the same products pages. Just an idea... I think I am following your idea but as a newbie I do not understand the mechanics of how to do this or how to implement it can you please explain to me in greater detail? satish Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I think I am following your idea but as a newbie I do not understand the mechanics of how to do this or how to implement it can you please explain to me in greater detail? with products being same but categories different the center content will be same. So You need to make sure that You left and right column keep changing with change incategories. Second have some brief category sescription come up on all pages. So You are sure that the content repeat is reduced to less then 40%. I dont think gogle will penalise in that case. Satish Ask/Skype for Free osCommerce value addon/SEO suggestion tips for your site. Satish Thanks for your suggestions but I think I have solved it by using the Ultimate SE URL, this has changed the URL's from the path**id** set up to product name. i.e. I might have had say from the different categories ...........path22 id 43 and .....path26 id43 and say ........path29 id 43 all pointing to the same product but each one a separate URL now still using the categories they each point to one address .........productname.... So hopefully that will have sorted the problem. I have also read somewhere that google doesnt like blank review pages and you should do something so when spidering the bots dont go down the blank pages only go on pages with reviews written but I can refind the posting can anybody direct or advise me? Thanks again to those that have made suggestions. Liz A very appreciative member still attempting to climb the steep learning curve!
