Simpler to run PHP4 with SQL5?

We are using 2.2 MS2 (051113) on a Linux server with PHP 4.4.4 and MySQL 4.1.22-standard.

Our host will be migrating all servers to PHP5 and MySQL5. We will have the option to continue using PHP4 but we will be forced to go to MySQL5.

Our store is heavily modified with lots of contributions and some custom work.

What kind of problems can we expect?

As I understand from http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...79130&st=20, milestone 051113 is up to date for MySQL5. Am I mistaken?

Can we get away with using PHP4 and MySQL5?

Thanks in advance for the insight,

Karim.

Well for MySQL 5 you just have to follow the upgrade path(excepting contributions) .. as far as PHP 4.x is concerned I doubt it is really a good idea to build new shops based on this as it has now been discontinued. Eventually everyone will have to drop it.

Maybe a reasonable idea would be to migrate as PHP4 to keep the shop running and begin urgent(ish) development of a copy of your site that is PHP5 compatible on your home PC server. I say this as it'll probably be a whole lot easier to convert contributions to MySQL5 that PHP5. Especially the more complex ones.

Thank you for your reply. We will definitely be upgrading our website to be PHP5-compatible. The problem is that our host did not give us much advance notice.

What is the upgrade path for MySQL5? Can you give me more details.

Thanks again.
