part number option. please please please!

add a field for a part number in the product attributes.

ie product A has 50 possible applications all of which vary slightly thus have different part numbers.

i choose variation (ex, variation #6) for product A and place the order. on the order, the corresponding part number is displayed. this would save tons of time as im selling well over 3,000 different parts. its much easier to have the part number show up on an order than having to manually look through way too many catalogs for the description of the parts and then get the part number to process w/ my distributer.

thanks a ton. also if this isnt something youd like to do for every instance, can you tell me how to add this functionality on my own?

Have you tried it and found that it doesn't work? The contribution list says for ver 2.2 and the last update was on 11/9/02, which would lead me to believe that it is for version 2.2

did some searching aparently the upc module only works for a specific snapshot  oh well.

however i still need a way to distinguish between model numbers.heres an example: http://ajperformance.ath.cx/catalog/catalo...450748116ac1755

each one of the "available options" needs to be a different part number and price. i havent figured out a way to do that yet

The current attributes part of Osc won't handle what you're trying to do? You could have the part, then add attributes for it and then it would change the price and tell you what option they picked. I'm assuming you already tried this but am curious as to why it wouldn't work for your particular application?

If every member of this board donated $1 to the dev team, that would be over $11,000.00. Don't you think this cart is worth at least a $1????

it would work. it would just be a huge pain in regards to seeing what option they picked and then searching thru catalogs for the part number. but if i have the part number right on there i could print the order out and fax to my suplier.

Is it possible for you to just append the variation to the base item number in the Model Number field?

i.e.:

Basic Item # 123456

Variation 1 123456-01

Variation 2 123456-02

etc.

Just to save you some time here, the UPC mod works for all 2.2 snapshots.

I have put this on a version from back in March, and also on the very latest snaphot from about a week ago. Dec 20th approx.

Readme is very poor, but it DOES work.

Trust me I have it running.

please tell me where to add the text that is listed in the default.php install directions. I am working on Dec 2002 snapshot and I did follow the install completely (very time consuming but could be worth it) until I came to

catalog/includes/languages/english/default.php - my code doesn't match with install dir...
