locque Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I am using UPS XML version 1.3.2 on my site. It works great for all products that are boxed and shippped like regular items. However, we fabricate bumpers for race cars and ship tires as well. These products don't ship based on a weight or dimensions of the box. We simply slap a label on the item and ship it as is. When we use our manual process in the shipping department, we check the box that adds additional handling charge of $10. We considered adding this price to the item or even as an attribute, however, then our product pricing will not be competitive. There should be a way to tell the module to add an additional $10 for each of these products the customer orders. I have contacted the contributor of this module and he suggested I ask the question here. Please let me know how we can accomplish this... Thanks in advance.... Quote
mrmjwilson Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 We are also interested in a special handling charge for specific items as some items require special packaging before shipping... but we would also like to be able to define the amount on a per item basis if the special handling charge option is checked. We use the UPS module and would like this option to work with this module. Quote
Guest Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 We are also interested in a special handling charge for specific items as some items require special packaging before shipping... but we would also like to be able to define the amount on a per item basis if the special handling charge option is checked. We use the UPS module and would like this option to work with this module. Our module is a Shipping Insurance and Handling fee. You can modify the code to charge what you want for a handling fee. In addition, you can add insurance on packages shipped to US customers from FedEx, UPS, DHL and USPS. The module lets you set the charge for insurance + handling up to $3.50, but like I said, you can modify code and increase the limit of $3.50. Furthermore, the insurance and handling fee is calculated per $100 of the checkout total. For example, someone buys a product for $300.00. The Insurance & Handling fee would be $10.50 (3 x $3.50) so you may want to leave the limit as is. Last, if your going to use this contribution you will need to modify it so it does not order insurance if you don't intend to offer insurance. Here's why. Lets say someone buys a product from you and they think they bought insurance. Well, the package never arrives or it does arrive and its damaged. The buyer will want to file an insurance claim and since you NEVER purchased the insurance gues who's on the hook to replace the item and pay for it?... YOU ARE! At any rate, the insurance is dirt cheap only .70 cents per $100. You'll easily make back your $ and turn a profit on every sale. Quote
mrmjwilson Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Our module is a Shipping Insurance and Handling fee... Furthermore, the insurance and handling fee is calculated per $100 of the checkout total. Thank you for responding to our post. 1. This appears to be an option for the buyer to accept or decline at time of purchase - We need for this to be a special handling fee option you can set when adding an item to the store. Once set - the item would display the correct price in the store, and the 'Special' handling fee would be added if the person selects to have the item shipped. 2. This appears to be calculated on the total amount of the individual sale. Again we need to be able to set a variable amount on a per item basis as only some items in our store need this special handling fee and then this amount would change per itam depending upon the size of the item being shipped. Now this doesn't have to be a toggle choice when adding items to the store as we could input 'zero' in the special handling charge field for the items which do not require special handling. Situation: Mobile Home Parts Store where most items shipped do not require special handling but some items such as a window or door would require us to build a shipping crate. Again thank you for your time and consideration. Quote
mrmjwilson Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Regarding adding 'special handling charges' variable to certain products... we have set the tare weight to 1 pound and 10% handling charge for larger items. We also have a $3 handling charge added in the UPS module. This isn't ideal as we would prefer to set a variable price for special handling when adding an item to the store and then have that amount added to the total if the customer selects to have the item shipped.
