I am noticing a lot of confusion here about how to resize images best. Somehow I feel the need to explain this simple problem to all those who know very little about HTML and even less about how web browsers work.

No size adjustments within the admin section can make your downsized or enlarged images look good!!!

It’s as simple as that.

Those images will always look wrong and jagged because web browsers are crap at resizing images, thus making your sites look cheap and amateurish. The same applies if you use the contrib where a small image is being resized to a larger one. Again, no mater what, it will always look bad and cheap. The only REAL solution to this is to use 2 images.

I have found a lot of contributions that deal with product images, but the simplest and probably the most desirable function, where you would have the ability to upload 2 images, is missing. If there was an option to use two images, than one would be used all across the site as a thumbnail (small image) and the other one (large image) would be used after a visitor clicks the small image where it says: “Click to enlarge” on the product info page.

I would be most grateful I someone told me if there was such a contribution.

Ok, I found it: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2226

This is the best image resizing contribution I could find. It still can’t compete with the option of having two separate images, but this is as good as it gets if you use just one image for thumbnails and pop-ups.

Many thanks to whoever made it
