I'm having installation problems!

I've uploaded my files to my server, but I get the message"The website declined to show this page". I think I need to change my file permissions, but I do not know how to do that.

 

Please could you give me some pointers.

There could be several reasons for that message, one of which is that the web server does not have PHP installed.

 

Another reason, as you've pointed out, could be that permissions of the folders & files are not correct, but it could also be that the 'ownership' of those folders and files is wrongly set to 'root' on the server - meaning you'd never be able to access them.

 

If on an Apache server there are two ways of changing permissions - via FTP and via the File Manager in your web hosting control panel.

 

If on a Windows server then you can only change permissions via the File Manager in your web hosting control panel.

 

I don't think your problem is the permission level on folders and files - I think it's server permissions which are the problem. Contact your hosting company.
