User permisions

I am having a posible security issue with our site just loaded.

The error is.

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/rev19554/public_html/shop/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

I am so confused as where I may find the user permisions and what should I set them to.

Thanks in advance

Hi Carl,

Welcome to the fun world of oscommerce! You will have to use an ftp program to change files, download file, upload files and change permissions of files. You might very well have one in your webhost control panel of your website. Check there first. If you don't have one you can download one free from the internet. I use one called smart ftp which seems to work fine, but I believe there are several out there. Anyway, you use the ftp program to open the catalog folder, then the includes folder, then you should see under the includes folder the configure.php file. You need to right click on it and find the Properties/ CHMOD selector. Click on it and there you can change the permissions of the file to 444.

Hope this helps! Post back if you need more help. Also, I suggest that if you are new to oscommerce, you should look on this site under Solutions / Documentation / Knowledge Base for lots of helpful info on getting your site the way you need it.

Thanks Leslie.

There must be something else wrong as I have just spent the last 2 hrs trying to fix it without sucess.

It should have worked as I have been told by two others exactly what you said.

Need time out !

Finaly got it sorted.

In the control host pannel i was clicking on the folder names and not on the folders.

Once clicking on the folders and finding the configure php i was able to set the user permisions to 444 and it worked.

Make sure you are doing this from your ISP's control panel.

Sometimes doing it through an ftp client just will not work.

Contact you ISP's helpdesk if you are unable to find it/use their tool.
