Guest Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Dear Friends... I have a current running web site since 2004 with osCommerce V2.2... I have a lot of contributions installed there and i'm thinking to migrate to New version of osCommerce V3, but i have some questions to do... 1 - The osCommerce V3 it's ready to become a full functional live site???? 2 - What are the big differences between both versions??? Where i can found the list with all features for this new version 3.0 3 - What is the list of new functionalities for this new version osCommerce V3??? I'm asking this because i install some very interesting contributions like Easy Populate, Center Shop, Newsletter Subscribers and poll booth and others!!!! The new version of osCommerce V3 already have this features added to the code???? The databases are compatible or it's possible to upgrade from osCommerce V2.2 to osCommerce V3 with out losing the data???? I'm asking this because i have currently 1100 Customers and about 300 Orders made on this web site... Please can anyone clarify this questions to me???? Best Regards João Carrolo
Jack_mcs Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 It's not functional and the contributions won't be useable. ♥geoffreywalton Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Release three is an ethereal thing, no one seems to know when it will be ready. No release date has been announced but it will come one day. Guest Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Yes, i understand but if it comes to late, the version 3 runs the serious risk to come completely out of date comparing with other e-commerce engines
♥geoffreywalton Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Agreed. But the release date / feature & functionality for 3 is under the control of the Project Team. Can you post what your oppinion about osc2nuke???? Best Regards João Carrolo OScommerce is free right? So I would not hold your breath and expect up-to-date releases, paid software is likely to get updated 10-20 times faster then anything that is free and for the lazy...its just fact...it took years for phpbb to move from 2 to 3....dont have high expectations on free software.
Guest Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 osCommerce and all the community involved is a great team, for what i see in this moment i will still with osCommerce... I only have two segestions 1 - all contributions must be approved by anyone from osCommerce Team, this because in same cases some contributions are not 100% functional... 2 - Build a special area for request something, even if it necessary to pay something i think can be an very good idea... I'm telling this because in this moment i want to install the phpbb V3 and i want who the customers create only an account for both platforms and i can found nothing in any place...
Jack_mcs Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 1 - That's never going to happen. More than a few full-time people would be required to download and test each contribution including updates. About a year or two, several team members were assigned the task of going through all of the contributions and making sure they met the basic guidelines and then to place them in the correct category. I don't know how long that took but I know it went on for over four months. The result - I think you can judge for yourself. 2 - You can suggest a contribution or ask if one exists. You may not get a response but that is just the nature of the forums.
