I have searched the forum for a couple hours with no luck. Can someone give me a clue where to look for the soltion to this one?

 

I've chmod777 the config files, the database connects fine now. However, when I get to the next step, stept 2 for the web server, this is all I get. I've tried chmod777 the install directory, I've tried a new upload and install. Still no luck.

Just a shot in the dark.

 

I'm working on setting up a client's store. Everything was going along fine and one day I get error messages saying that I do not have access rights. It goes without saying that my first reaction was 'Oh, s--t, what did I do? I tried everything that I could think of and everything anyone suggested. No luck. Finally, I contacted the store host and after arguing that there was a problem that I didn't think I caused, their tech support - located in India - sent me an support response that there was a certain php setting that was causing the problem, but they couldn't change it because it would cause a security hole on their server.

 

I finally got through to the Tech Support supervisor and he told me that they switched to a new server and this mysterious security setting was not flipped from 'off' (the default) to 'on'. He did the magic flip (whatever the hell that means), and all is now well.

 

Long story to suggest that maybe, just maybe, there is something at your host's end that is causing your problem. I've found that if you have thought your problem through and can articulate it simply and accurately to the tech support people, you can usually get a good response.
