File Download Corruption

Hi,

I need some help. I am having trouble with files that are downloaded through my osCommerce interface not getting corrupted. If I download an executable through osCommerce i get a strange result from the executable (essentially it doesn't run). If I change the file to a zip file I get a message after download (again through osCommerce) I get a message that the downloaded file is corrupt.

However, if I download either the executable or the zip file using FTP both files work as expected.

I am truly stumped as to why the files are magically changing in the process.

Any ideas? Thanks so much!

go to admin panel. Then configuration/downloads and set download by redirect to true.

Let me know if that works.

That was a good idea. Unfortunately the result was worse - upon clicking on the download button a dialog box comes up that looks legitimate, then the file downloads in an instant - the result is a 1kb file which is not the executable or zip file.

One thing I have new insight into: I hired a guy to customize my site. One of the things i asked for was that he move the downloadable files into the secure side of the website. The files have to be in the secure download folder for osCommerce to show the download button. However, if they don't exist in the non-secure download folder it doesn't download correctly - it just goes to a blank screen. Could this "dual" location be the issue?

What do you mean by secure side of the website?

If you have an SSL cert installed, your download folder would be secure in its defualt location.

Ive had the problem you have before with corrupt downloads, but all I had to do was change the setting in admin.

Might want to try this thread:

I made the changes shown in the thread and I don't get any change.

What I meant by the "secure side" is that my web hosting company uses a folder structure where files in the https subfolder are "secure" and the files in the http subfolder are not. Is this typical?

Also, after looking at the code some more I see that it adding header information. Why isn't it just a link? Why add this download information to the file?

Im not sure, maybe someone else can confirm, but if you download from a directory using a https path, wont that alone corrupt files?
