Web Install Problems...

Hello,

I'm trying to install oscommerce on a ubuntu linux server. It's running apache, php, and mysql.

I've created the database and test user. When I run the web install, it gets to the point where it's "Testing database connection" and just hangs there forever. I've tried this on my centos machine as well with the same results. I've set permissions to all the required files and I know mysql is working properly since other applications are using it. Same thing happens when I try to install PHP-Nuke, but I was able to install and get phpmyadmin to work fine.

I can't seem to find too many other people having this same problem, but it seems strange that it would happen to me on the two totally different computers I tried.

Anyone have any insight? I am fully capable of tinkering and figuring stuff out myself, but I'm at a loss here. A nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Josh

I am having a problem at a similar point. After following perfectly the Pre Installation instructions I am ready to start the Web Based Installation. One of the first instructions is to go to

This is supposed to start the Web Install. I get a 404 error, Page Not Found. I used ftp to move the folder and files of catalog to my servers doc path. I may be really really missing something obvious but is the "my-server" part of the Web Install path going to be my domain or will it be something else? I also tried adding http://...../catalog/osCommerce/ to my Web Install path and still cannot get it to start. I am hosted on NetworkSolutions.

Thanks for your mercy..

I had the same problem but a quick look at the directory structure revealed that the install is found at catalog/install/index.php
