digi
Hello, Does anyone here know someone that uses the OCcommerce with over 5000+ (even more than 10,000 +) items? because I want to see the speed with LOTS of items in the database, thank you DIGI *Outlined in chalk everone looks the same* Currently useing OSC 2.2 MS1 running on Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_jk/1.2.0 mod_perl/1.26 PHP/4.3.3 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6b
mattice
I currently have +5000 on my local test server and experience no problems when I test 100 connections searching for the letter 'n'. You'll notice it is a bit slower but we're talking seconds not halve minutes. osCommerce has been reported to serve more then 15.000 items. Bottlenecks are internal memory of server, bandwidth and harddisk speed. Indexing the db helps. Ideal setup will be dedicated seperate db server with ton-o-memory. So bring your ton-o-money ;) Carpe Aptenodytes, Mattice "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"

digi
Thank you, mattice also, you mentioned Ideal setup will be dedicated seperate db server with ton-o-memory. So bring your ton-o-money what would be ideal server setup? how much memory would be ideal? and what speed hard drive would you recommend? thanks again digi *Outlined in chalk everone looks the same* Currently useing OSC 2.2 MS1 running on Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_jk/1.2.0 mod_perl/1.26 PHP/4.3.3 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6b
mattice
ideal is not limited by budget ;).... What server load are you expecting? No use having two dedicated servers if you only get 25 visitors at the same time during peek hours. Go for co-located dedicated server in any case. If you have high server loads (couple of gig a day) get a seperate one just to host mySQL. Give that about 2 gig memory and you'll be a happy camper. As for your disks.. get scsi. Oh... and stay away from anything that is not penguin powered but I assume you allready knew that :D HTH Mattice "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"
digi
Well... I expect my server to get about 200-300 hits per day (at first), I currently am in the process of setting up my server (dedicated), I have 512 meg ram (pc 2100). - I will put more if its needed! and a ultra ATA drive, (to cheap to get the scsi drive) my mysql database will be dedicated (oscommerce only) my operating system is Mac OSX Server (Built fully on UNIX) Oh... and stay away from anything that is not penguin powered but I assume you allready knew that PENGUIN POWER ALL THE WAY!!! Thanks for all your help, mattice digi *Outlined in chalk everone looks the same* Currently useing OSC 2.2 MS1 running on Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_jk/1.2.0 mod_perl/1.26 PHP/4.3.3 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6b
