E-Mail / smtp settings

hi all,

I am a little unsure about setting up the email function, can anyone help?

I am setting up OSCommerce in W2K and now need to finish up with the email functions. I've looked in the forums but I cannot really make sense of it all. At the moment I just want to test the email functions before I go live.

1. Can I use my hotmail account for this or do I need to install a mailserver, if so what would be a good one for this purpose, I understand that most of them are quite complex.

2. Presuming I can use hotmail, what are the settings?

I understand I have to go into php.ini and set 2 parameters.

SMTP = (is it "[email protected]" - literally?)

&

sendmail_from = (is it "[email protected]" - ?)

Is that it, or are there any other settings to change - ie mailheaders? If so where and how do I do this?

In OsC admin/config/E-Mail I've got this:

Transport: smtp

Linefeeds: CRLF

Mime: false

Verify thru DNS: true

Send Emails: true

Any help greatly appreciated, but please be very specific!

Thanks

If at first you can not figure it out ask in the forums or search then ask!
