secondspin Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Hi there, Well, I was nearly there with my site but spotted one important issue that needs to be resolved before going 'live' and I've searched and searched but to no avail. I am registered for VAT so my items and my shipping costs have VAT applied to them. It appears everything is working fine when making a test purchase - for example an item costs £10 and my P&P costs £4 so order total is £14 with the VAT part of this being £2.09. HOWEVER, when I check PayPal (I am using PayPal Payments Pro and have their official contribution installed) they would only bill the customer for £13.40 which is the £10 item plus £3.40 for P&P minus the VAT. For some reason it is just not charging for the tax element of the shipping cost. I've checked all my oscommerce tax and shipping modules through the admin side and it all seems in order so I was wondering if anyone else has had (and resolved!) this sort of problem. Any help or guidance would be great. I'm beginning to pull my hair out with this one! Thanks, Luke
♥Vger Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Check in your Pay Pal settings (on the Pay Pal website) that you don't have Pay Pal set to charge tax. If you do and there is no entry for tax then Pay Pal will ignore what your website sends for the tax element - and then charge nothing. I know this has happened with regard to the Shipping element. It seems particularly to happen to eBay Sellers who use their Pay Pal account for eBay Sales. Vger
secondspin Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 Thanks Vger for the quick reply and suggestion. Unfortunately that's one thing I've already done but to no effect. Do you or anyone else have any more ideas? Thanks very much.
♥Vger Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Check the Sort Order and make sure you haven't set Tax after the Order Total. Vger
secondspin Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 Cheers Vger, checked the Sort Order and that's fine, showing sub-total, then shipping, tax and finally total. I'm at such a loss with this and was thinking maybe a contribution I have added is causing this issue so on a different server I have I uploaded a fresh vanilla version of osCommerce 2.2 MS2 and then added the official PayPal Payments Pro UK contribution and made a test purchase and it's doing the same thing. Argh!!!! Surely there must be some other users out there who've experienced this. Please help!!
♥Vger Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Can't help you with Pay Pal Payments Pro UK - I thought you were talking about the osCommerce Pay Pal IPN. Vger
secondspin Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 Thanks anyway Vger. Can anyone else help or has anybody ever had the same issue before? Could it be anything to do with my hosting - i'm with 1&1 - I'm really clutching at straws now...

secondspin Posted December 24, 2007 Author Posted December 24, 2007 Thanks for the info Geoffrey. Glad to know the issue is caused on their side and not mine although I find it quite unbelievable that a company the size of PayPal don't actually let potential UK customers know about this shortfall before going to all the effort of signing up with them and changing all the coding etc... Also the fact that when I have been in touch (on more than one occasion) with PayPal they didn't seem to have a clue about the problem I have been experiencing is worrying. Put it this way, because of this problem my business launch has had to be put back by several weeks and that alone amounts to hundreds of pounds in expenses that I have had to pay out on rent and extras and that has made me feel quite dismayed when PayPal have in actual fact been aware of this VAT/shipping situation for months.
