guanche Posted December 4, 2002 Posted December 4, 2002 I am in the process of reworking the Verisign Payment modules for Pay Flow Pro and Pay Flow Link so that they work with the latest checkout procedure changes and I would like some input from the community. My question: what are the Payment module fields that should be required from a customer using a credit card for payment at checkout? (Knowing customers do not like to type a lot The old modules I contributed asked for: 1) credit card # 2) expiration date 3) CSC (credit card security code, 3 digit code on back of card) In new module should I? 1) require a field of something like "Card Holder's Name", with right coding it could be auto-filled with customer's name already or they could edit it? 2) should CSC be required, is this a very good measure to help prevent fraudulent transactions? I have the option to switch this on/off in the Admin 3) What else should be thought of here, any suggestions? or am I thinking about this too much?

The email address allows us to send confirmations.
rubygirl Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 As for cc processing - these are required fields: Full Name Billing Address of CC including address and full zip - shipping address is always a given for obvious reasons, but processors need to verify the billing address of the credit card - this is called AVS - which includes checking the numeric portion of the address plus the zip code -AVS is only supported for US based cc - there is no AVS for international cc recognized by Visa/Mastercard as of yet. CSC - which is actually referred to as CVV2 - this is the back 3 numbers for Visa/Mastercard - the CVV2 for Amex is actually 4 numbers and is on the front of the card As far as whether or not anything prevents fraud - i wish it were that easy - in reality it is simply the processor that requires the information - it is their way of feeling warm and fuzzy that you are "trying" to prevent fraud -without that information- the merchant will be "downgraded" or upcharged for that transaction by at least 1.5% - so to make merchants and processors happy - the above is required.
