What would cause timeouts and no progress on "Checkout&

Some orders go through but some customers have the screen hang at the checkout or even submit screen and it just times out. Can't hit any other link on the site then to go to any other page. Then you have to reload the browser. Tried deleting accounts and recreating new ones think it was database corruption but, that does not seem to be the answer.

 

Anyone have this problem?
