Guest
I have two distinctly seperate types of customers. Individuals and Groups (Schools, clubs etc) Its becoming increasingly difficult to remain with clarity because of all the instructions I am having to splash everywhere for the two different shopping experiences. So, I would like to run two completely seperate sites. It would be simple to "copy" the existing site and just change a few things. But......... How would I go about running them so the files don't mix up (I suppose having them in seperate directories would solve this???) Also do I need to have a seperate database or could I use just one (I don't mind if everyone is bundled in one - I hope???). And would I have two admins ??? or if I used one database could I use one admin??? I'm kinda confused but I learn real quick. Any one think they may be able to nut this one out or is there someone else out there currently doin' this already????
FINEGIFTS
It would seem to me that you would be more overwhelmed by running that way i would sudgest running a seperate database for each store so you dont get your customers mixed up but that is me i do it this way when testing new snapshots i tried once to run 2 stores one 1 DB and i found i had more trouble than it was worth to me.....MY sugestion run 2 DB's and call it good  "If it is not broke Don't fix it/ If it is then fix it good the first time and you never have to fix it again." If at first you can not figure it out ask in the forums or search then ask!
mattice
I agree, just copy the complete site you have to a new directory, change the settings in /catalog/includes/application_top.php /catalog/includes/configure.php and /admin/includes/application_top.php /admin/includes/configure.php to reflect your new paths / database settings then export / import the database (use phpMyAdmin or stock osC backup tool) and you have an instant copy of your site running on a completely seperate database. Guest
Thanks Mattice, Thanks Finegifts, Also I have recently found out that I can't just create a new DB myself, got to go to Host and get them to do it for me - Right? (big nod).
mattice
depends. If you are in control of your own mysql you can do it yourself but most hosting companies will not allow it... so yes.. ask them.
