CheriJ Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I am trying to set up a sample store and when I uploaded the logo it split the top portion. I've looked everywhere in here to find the answer with no luck. I also tried reuploading the image but that didn't help either, I tried it in both ascii and binary modes, no change. Any suggestions?? Thanks so much for helping a newbie!! Cheri Look at the logo here
germ Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 You should always upload image files in BINARY mode. I downloaded it to my pc and opened it up with something other than IE, and it looks just as bad. My opinion is the image file is corrupt. Does it look that way on your PC before you upload it? If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. If you loaded in non-binary you would not see anything. I would grab the image again and send it right up to your site without trying to do anything in Photoshop or any other program. Dan

Dan Well I deleted the image and then uploaded it again and it looks great now! Not sure what the problem was but its fixed now, thanks guys for the support!! The only thing I did differently was that I deleted it from the site first and then uploaded, before I had just overwritten the file. Cheri
Guest Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Hi Guys I also have problems with images. For some reason when I upload the images using smartFTP they look like this: www.chameleononline.co.za I've tried ASCII I've tried BINARY And I've tried deleting the image and then uploading them again. Still the same Using IE6 Could it perhaps be that I stare at images cashed on my PC somewhere? If so, how do I clear the cashe? Thanks

Look at the file size on the PC vs the server. The server images, or what there is of them, appears truncated. From what I see here, there are only two images that are OK: http://chameleononline.co.za/catalog/inclu..._quick_find.gif http://chameleononline.co.za/catalog/inclu...images/icon.gif The rest are corrupt. Try sending up a few images one at a time and see if it's not your FTP program messing with the files. A good free FTP program is Core FTP LE. I use the pro version but did use the free one for years. Dan
germ Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Can you view the images on your PC OK? If not, they may have come to you corrupt from where ever you got them. Guest Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Hi Germ Yes, I checked, the images on my PC are all fine. It must be somewhere from the FTP that they go bad or some problem on the host. Railroadguy/Germ And anyone else interested. Some more interesting behaviour. About a week ago I uploaded the site using ASCII mode as described in the osCommerce manual. Right from the start, most images seemed to be partially uploaded or totally broken. This didn't bother me, as I first focussed on configuring the site and creating my own custom shipping module etc. Most of the basic config and functionality is now done so I started to focus on getting the GUI shaped up. This morning I played around again with some uploads. In SmartFTP I went and disabled the cache setting, disabled the compression, made sure it is set to BINARY. Basically I disabled anything I thought could possibly affect the file format or origin. I also went and deleted the images from the site, made sure to refresh SmartFTP to confirm they have been removed. Right, So then I uploaded the images again with the new configuration, queing the files and allowing only 1 worker at a time. I also performed a disk cleanup, deleted cookies and removed any offline data on my pc to remove any possibility that I would be looking at a cached version of the site. The result: The only thing that changed was the impression on my face!!! The images didn't look any better nor any worse. I had 1 working image on the top of the page. So I left it to go and do some other stuff, before the frustration gets the better of me. This evening I checked the site again. WOW!!! The images I uploaded display correctly. I don't know how or why this has happened. I can only suspect that there is some form of delay from when I uploaded the files to when they take effect. Not sure if I can blame this on something on the hosting service, but I know everything was successfully uploaded in the right way and all files completed. There was only some time that elapsed between my checks. Now... I have just uploaded the buttons under the languages the same way and checked them... Corrupt!!! I'll check the site again later tonight, and if everything is suddenly fine, then I'm going to have a looooong chat with the hosting company. I'll post the results, but I'm not keeping high hopes. Later..............................
