mattev
I am trying to set up a payment system for a UK charity. I am selling tickets for an educatinoal conference. I will be using a 3rd party server to run oscommerce from with payments via protx form vsp. Am I right in thinking that I need to register under the data protrection act because the mysql database will form a record of customers and orders including personal details? As the computer on which the data is stored is neither on site nor owned by the charity, does this present problems? ANy advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you, Matt

Yes you will need to register. You can find more detailed information here http://www.dataprotection.gov.uk/ Mark Evans osCommerce Monkey & Lead Guitarist for "Sparky + the Monkeys" (Album on sale in all good record shops) --------------------------------------- Software is like sex: It's better when it's free. Ramesh
I am not an expert, so do read the OFFICIAL website : http://www.dpr.gov.uk/ You basically pay a small fee ?35 and appoint some one within your company /organisation as Data Controller . Read the self-assessment notes and see whether your company needs to register . All information held must be available for the named person(s) to see. Order processing does not necessarily mean you need to register (otherwise all business transactions would require you to register, and I am sure my local Pizza place are not registered :-) Good Luck !
