webstarter Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Hi there I have read many contributions and in most of them people mention to try the contribution out on your test site first not your live site. I would like to know how to create a test site please as I have used many of the contributions to change things on my site and occasional. When I first started using contributions my site had been down a few times due to something I have may done wrong. I'm better at it now but I would like to have a test site I can try on as there are many contributions I would like to try out that I think would benefit my web site. If anybody is able to advise me I would really appreciate it.
Jack_mcs Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 There are two ways to do it: - Create a sub-directory on your server and place the test code there. So if your shop is located at http://mywebsite.com/, then the test site could be at http://mywebsite.com/mytestshop/. Be sure to create a second database when you do this. Your hosting package may not have enough room or options to do this though so you need to check that first. - Use a package like EasyPHP or XAmpp and install it on your computer to create a mini-server. You can run everything from your computer and then upload it to the live shop once it is working.
