Removed default text now how do i get rid of the gap ?

Hello i have removed the default greeting text and now im left with a gap where it used to be see here

 

how do i get rid of that gap so the new products box is under the navigation bar ?

 

any help is much appreciated

Note that we didn't actually delete anything.

 

We just added the (4) lines that say *** ADDED THIS LINE *** with the <!-- and --!> tags to "comment out" (make the browser ignore) portions of the code.

 

If the results aren't what you expected, just remove the lines we added.

Hello thank you for the reply i tried what you said but it didnt change a thing although the code in my index.php file differs from the code you put up. Here is the code for my index below

Yesterday, the "default" text was gone, earlier today it was back, now it's gone again...

Hate to interrupt but could you please indicate for me the same thing? I'd like to remove, not only the "what's new" but also the "would you like to log in?"

To remove the "would you like to log in?":

 

Change this:

To remove it, and bump everything else on the page up, try this:

Hello thanks for all your replys the following code did exactly what i wanted the first time i tried it it didnt work because my index.php file differs to the one shown but i found where i needed to put in the code to make it ignored and it worked perfectly THANK YOU GERM!

Note that we didn't actually delete anything.

 

We just added the (4) lines that say *** ADDED THIS LINE *** with the <!-- and --!> tags to "comment out" (make the browser ignore) portions of the code.

 

If the results aren't what you expected, just remove the lines we added.
