Meta Tags & Key words advice

Hello there,

Like everyone people want to get to the top of the list when it comes to search engines. Our web site was created in January, 2006 and since then we have done a bit of business on our our site but not the amount I would of hoped for. I know things don't happen overnight and it all takes time. When the web site was created by which I'm very happy I was asked for some key words that were then inserted into the web site I racked my brains and went through all the key words I could think of to put on the site as you will see from the list below.

When the web site was created I did not know much about key words and how they worked. Well I have viewed many different web sites since then and all of them seem to have all different ways of listing key words and also meta tags. My key words on my web site when the web site was created are actual displayed on every page as you will see if you view this link for my web site. Visit My Website

 

When I first saw this I was a bit surprised to see the key words on show on the web site as most large company web sites I had visited before I had never seen key words displayed on there web pages like this. I have now seen the a few webs site where they have had key words displayed on there web sites.

 

I recently came across a web site that I found very interesting and helpful regarding meta tags and key words. Please see the link About keywords & meta tags On looking at my web site I have found that I do not have any meta tags listed in my web site or key words in the top part of my web site source where as the web site that I found mentions there should be and when I view many other web sites sources they all seem to have them.

 

If there is anybody who would be able to help me in letting me know where I should be placing my meta tags and key words in the body of my web site source I would really like to know and also what php files I need to open to place this information please. If you maybe have tried lots of different ways to get noticed on search engines and you have found one that has maybe has worked for you I would be very great full.

Connect to your site, and goto catalog > index.php open to edit it. aroung line 39 you will see

<title><?php echo TITLE; ?></title>

With the cursor at the last > of </title> press enter to create a new line.

Now copy and paste

you need to changfe the site descriptions to suit your company.

 

Search engines are difficult beasts to manage, they do not ony depend on keyword, but traffic, page layout, how many times keywords appear on the pages.

There are many sites out there where you can check your SEO rank, but i hope this starts you off

You need to install a meta tags contribution to have the tags handled properly. I recommend the Header Tags Controller but there are several others. Don't add all of those keywords as suggested. That will hurt your chances of getting listed well.
