I sell onions, so the title could be a variety of Red Onions. The amount in the package could be 30 onions. When i try this and do a dummy run and check the invoice it shows 1 x Red Onions.

What i want it do show is that the Red Onions have 30 items in the pack. Does that make sense.

So it would show 1 x 30 red onions.

Rather than 1 x Red Onions

I can put the number of onions in the title and that shows when preparing the order the correct amount which should be despatched. Otherwise a large list would have to be checked for so many of the orders, or the website.

Can anyone say if i have missed something here? its not attributes, but just the amount contained within the unit i need to show on invoice and packing slip.

Guess I would have to ask first...

Is the quantity package size already pre-determined? Meaning you have red onions available in a 10pk, 20pk, 30pk, etc...

Or are the customers ordering them individually somehow adding to the quantity themselves?

In regards to the first question/scenario I think you could be able to utilize the attributes feature. If that doesn't work for you then probably setting up multiple items would have to be your other choice, similar to what you mentioned.

Red Onions

10pk - ID# roqty10

20pk - ID# roqty20

30pk - ID# roqty30

etc...

It might take the longest to setup and end up with very similar product listings but it would be the quickest and easiest way to verify the quantity ordered. Plus if a customer ordered let's say two 30pk's you would know 60 red onions need to be shipped. 2 x 30pk Red Onions.

As far as the attributes feature, there might be a contribution to help simplify your needs. Or you can use the attributes for the scenario above. On the Product Info page when the customer views the Red Onion, you can have a pull down (or radio button) so they can select the quantity size package. I'm considering setting it up to offer a discount if more than one of that item is ordered. I will see the item ID# and the price, so I will know if they ordered 1, 3, 6, or 12. See example here.

Just some thoughts...

The quantity is pre-determined. Maybe 30 onions, its a basic offering with no additional options at the moment.

That would work when we offer other options later on. Loads of work setting the attributes on the products though.Like $10 for 30 (original price) $18 for 60 and so on. I don't know if there is a better way to work the attibutes as there could be up to 1000 products, all with different prices and bag sizes, like 10, 20, 40 etc.
