inovrhd Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Hello, I am trying to determine why MSIE browser pulls up the admin.php page and will not let me get into the catalog admin section without a password/userid (appearing to work properly), ...and yet Mozilla Firefox and Netscape browsers seem to completely bypass this file and go right into the catalog, displaying all of the admin options for all to see. It was suggested that I try to delete the cookies/cache for each of the browsers that aren't working properly, which I did, but that did not solve the problem, unfortunately. I also tried to use the .htaccess and .htpassword option and for whatever reason, it keeps me in a loop that does not allow me to get past the sign-in popup screen. Unfortunately, at this stage, I do not know enough about how to edit these files to solve the problem. Has anyone else experienced these issues? This is a live site and obviously, I do not want just anyone peering at the admin section. I would be extremely grateful if someone can help me out... if you need more information to help determine more, then please feel free to ask away... Thanks MUCH!

It sure sounds like a cookie/cache issue. Have you tried changing the password for admin?
inovrhd Posted December 7, 2007 Author Posted December 7, 2007 It sure sounds like a cookie/cache issue. Have you tried changing the password for admin? Hi Dave, Thanks for your input - I DID try to change the password etc for admin and I am STILL having the same problem... If you are certain it sounds like a cookies/cache problem, maybe a little more direction on how to clean it (them) out? I thought I had done so, but apparently, I might not have done it correctly. Any suggestions? Grateful!
germ Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Download this little utility: ATF Cleaner To clean out the Firefox cache/cookies: At the top click on Firefox, then check the boxes next to Firefox Cache and Firefox Cookies, then click the Empty selected button. I've used this utility for MSIE and Firefox for over a year. It's safe to download and use. I know for a fact, it will clean the cache & cookies. If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. inovrhd Posted December 7, 2007 Author Posted December 7, 2007 Have you tried accessing your admin page (without signing in) using another computer? I don't have access to one right now, but this evening will try to test this out! thanks for input
germ Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Maybe you have something "amiss" with your .htaccess file.... I just did a test using Firefox on my site. It asks me for the username/password the first time I access the admin, even if I don't delete the cookies/cache. What did you use to create your .htaccess file? If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. germ Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Crap. I also tried to use the .htaccess and .htpassword option and for whatever reason, it keeps me in a loop that does not allow me to get past the sign-in popup screen. It seems you don't use .htaccess  If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.
