Guest Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Hi I am new to the oscommerce and could someone tell me how to setup and deploy a Admin Password protection for my store.I have read and read somemore..Thanks.
photofxplus Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Usually this is done with an htaccess file. My webserver has an Admin panel that lets me create them on the fly. Check with your we server, they can probably help. Or read some more about creating the file.. Lloyd

Thanks Lloyd for the advice on the htacess files, but really to be honest there is no Admin Control panel with my hosting package..I guess I need to create one.Anyone with some knowledge on how to do so I would appreciate it very much as I have been trying for a few days to do so with a major amount of reading...Thank-you. My directory right now is as follows; /root directory/oscommerce2/catalog/admin/ and I need to change that. Thanks Again for any help anyone can give me.
photofxplus Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 You do not need an Admin panel provided by your host to create an htaccess file. You can create one from a txt document then rename it to htaccess. Upload it and it will work. Do a search for htaccess in all forums or google it. A lot of people have asked the same question - How to password protect the Admin panel. Try this link: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...amp;hl=htaccess Lloyd

For .htaccess look at http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml and scroll down to Password protection. You may need shell access to this. As for a control panel we use Plesk while others use Cpan. Your hosting company should be able to give you the path if they have one. Dan

photofxplus Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 When you first open notepad, click save as and type: .htaccess Then save in some location, reopen and do your editing Lloyd
