File Manager Ideas

It seems strange being able to edit a gif/jpg/png etc.

 

I think it may be a nice idea to have registered file types for the file manage. These types then have associations.

 

eg:

 

.htm .html .php .txt - Would allow both editing and viewing.

.jpg .gif .png - Would allow viewing (perhaps in a new window)

.sql - Perhaps allow the execution of sql code against the database and display the output into a text field..

 

Of course, there are probably countless uses of file type association. However, I can see at least the first two, if not all three being of some use.. Anyone else have ideas on this?
