Where did the GC buttons go?

I am working in the sandbox with a clean OC install and GC is the ONLY module added. It was working fine, carrier calculated shipping and all. I began editing text on the main page and I blew out the products and categories OS provided in favor of real merchandise.

 

Somewhere in the process, the GC buttons disappeared from all the pages. The checkout process takes you through the local signup/login and then to Delivery Info and Payment Info and then confirmation, in all cases allowing you to continue and advancing the breadcrumbs. Still - no GC buttons. On the Payment Info page it states " This is currently the only payment method available to use on this order. GoogleCheckout "

 

The Order Confirmation page has all the right info and totals and identifies GC as the payment method. Click the "Confirm Order" button and you get dumped right back to the shopping cart, as if GC taken the order. I even get the email thanking me for the order.

 

I removed and reinstalled the module for the OC control panel, disabled and re-enabled it.

The buttons are gone, GC never gets the order, I thought I was really careful, but must have done something. I do not know where to start looking.

 

What would happen if the sandbox was down? How could I tell if it was working?

 

I have scoured the available resources and reviewed the changes I thought I made for a full day, but no joy.

 

Any ideas? This is frustrating.
