GoogleCheckout Vs PayPal

I'm currently using PayPal. Only because it's what I know, but thought I would take a look at google's offering.

It seems a lot better and a lot clearer to 'intergrate' the payment process.

Is this free @ Google whereas PayPal's costs?

I'm not too sure about the features of Google Checkout and anyone that could shed some light would be appreciated.

I've used both neither with osc, paypal with gallery2 (photograph sales) and google with a custom online race entry system.

Google was a bit buggy to start with but its currently working very well.

It's also free at the mo & when it does start charging it is about 50% less than paypal.

I personally prefer the way as admin you have more control with when to take payment, payout into your bank etc.

With google you don't need to setup a direct debit like you do with paypal to authenticate the bank account.

The only down side I can see is that paypal is (market leader?) more recognised by the customer and many people have paypal accounts.

I think you can setup a osc store with both.

I currently only use Google Checkout, due to the free transactions that tie in with the adwords. It was an attractive option when starting my store rather than paying out.

Personally I've had no problems with Google Checkout so far, although a lot of people where having troubles when integrating it into highly modified sites. I installed a clean version of OSC then installed Google Checkout then built the rest of my store around it.

I do agree witht the PayPal being market leaders comment. I spoke to a customer the other day who was unsure on using Google and asked if we had PayPal installed. Which is why I am going to install both payment methods. In my view the more choice the customer has the better.
