Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource

I'm trying to get v2.1 running on this Rh7.2 box. Php seems to be running fine, as is MySQL. Tables have been created and some have values (from initial import).

 

I get this in every location at seems to require a db lookup when I open default.php in either admin or catalog:

I got a newer daily release, apparently the 2.1 package is missing critical config files (configuration.php)
