Hi all, very pleased to join this community as the threads at my hosts forum remain unanswered.

 

I am a total newbie and need some guidance. I have gone as far as i can at my hosts tutorials and need some assistance to continue. I have installed osCommerce 2.2-MS2 succesfully (cpanel/fantastico) but am beginning to think this is all beyond me, just didnt realise it would be so complicated for installing a cart. I have no knowledge of php/sql etc :'(

 

My specific concerns at the moment are:

 

1) How do you optomize your product image thumbnails for clarity?

2) New products i have inserted when clicked from the bottom of the home page give an error ''product not found'' even though they are listed in the categories?

3) How do i change the banner from osCommerce to my own ? I made a test banner, went into the banner area changed url, image etc and nothing happenned?

4) When i click one of my categories from my homepage nothing happens.

5) How do i edit/remove the default text from the homepage.

I appreciate any advice and help, or at least pointed in the right direction. I did ask for help [by email] at my hosts, who incidentally claim to be the no1 for osc, BUT SADLY i got an email back saying their tech support wants $50.00 an hour, so much for free technical help. (Why do they boast and offer scripts but give no basic support, hours after you sign up, not everyones a techie.)

hey man the answer to all your questions is to use the search button here.

all these questions are answered on different threads and there's a lot of resources to read from and learn.

community members try to help each other as much as possible but as long as one is willing to do the research and reading and needs help with more complicated stuff here and there.

 

here's my try at answering your questions:

 

1. try to use images that are resized to the default image size of oscommerce. if u use smaller images than default they will be upsized which ruins the quality and likewise for bigger than default images.

there are alternatives but you are not there yet. spend some time around here and you will see the more advanced solutions

 

2. where is the bottom of the page? need more info. a link to the site would be very helpful

 

3. you re most likely talking about the oscommerce Logo on top not the banner. the banner manager is for the bottom banners. to change ur logo read from here: http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osCommerce/C..._and_Layout/227

 

4. Hmm did u create this category urself?

 

5. ok now this one I must say was the reason I made the introductory paragraph of this thread. did you read this very same page that you are trying to fix? on it there is a section that says: Editing Page Texts :D

it tells you how to do it.

 

6 and 7 are easy :D
