Product listing - short description - ingredients?

Hi all I am looking for the option to add a short description out from each product in the product list before they click on a specific product. Hoerver I really can not see how to do that? Only options i see is the product attributes which is not what I am looking for, I am looking to make a short description? Is it possible to create an extra column saying 'main ingredients' or 'ingredients' and how do i do that? the current manufacturers options are irrelevant to me........
