Click on: Configuration --> Stock

On that page set:

Check stock level true

Subtract stock true

Allow Checkout false

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

Well, if you add more to the cart than the available quantity, it marks it "out of stock", and also this message displays:

Products marked with **OUT OF STOCK** dont exist in desired quantity in our stock.
Please alter the quantity of products marked with (**OUT OF STOCK**), Thank you

What I don't know is if it will actually continue thru the checkout.

It will let you start the checkout process with too many, but will it let you finish?

:unsure:
