New Attributes Functionality

I would love some help to accomplish the following:

 

I need to be able to attach text and a price to a product. The text will changeable by the customer, and this attributes price will change based on a per character formula. This is basically engraving on a product.

 

I don't mind adding fields to the database if I have to, or in writing code. And I have installed the various attribute options. But the way I see the problem is that the system associates the product/attributes with the database. So everyone could have a particular text attached to their product, but not a different text per customer.

 

Suggestions?
