Changing category display in index.php

Hi everyone. Could you give me a hand to change the default category display in index page.

Right now there is the default is "latest products" but I would like to have any category I want there, from my list of categories.

 

I managed to do that redirecting index.html on my server to the specific category url but doesn't look good on search engines so I would like to have that directly in my index.php not redirecting.

 

Any help would be highly apreciated.

I don't know why when contributors make changes and they do not include the full original instructions and modification of the original. How is anyone going to figure out which file to downloan and install!

I agree and think something should be posted in the contribution section to try to put that into effect. Finding the right files for the contribution you need can cause serious headaches!

Thanks alot for your answer but I'm afraid I can't see an easy way there. I don't want to make a different page with featured products, I just want to be able to display a full category (all products in that category) (that I choose) on the front page (index.php) instead of new products or whatever is default now.

Do I really need to make a separate page for that.? Can't be an easier way just to make a redirect to a cpath of a category?

Dunno I'm just asking.
