"Database Structure Now Being Imported"

Hey all.

I'm new here, so feel free to beat me into shape if I'm being a bit of a n00b!

I'm installing (or trying to install!) osCommerce v2.2 RC1 (the current download), but I've had a few problems.

PROBLEM #1:

All the install guides speak of tickboxes during the installation. I've not seen any of those. Were these guides for an older version?

PROBLEM #2:

The procedure gets to the stage where it imports the database structure... but no further. I realise it says to be patient, but I've been patient for an hour now... surely it doesn't take that long?

Could someone advise me on what to do, please? Maybe I could import the oscommerce.sql file into my database manually?

Thanks.

Is there any support here?? Hello? I'd really appreciate some help :-)

If you post the section of the manual it might help pepole identify if there has been a change.

Sounds like you are sql literate but my first check would be are you installing onto a server that has mysql installed.

If so go and see how far it has got. The sql is in the install folder.

Are there any permission problems?

Have the directories been set up on your server in the correct place?

Sorry, I didn't really supply enough info did I.

Here goes...

PHP Version: 5.2.4

MySQL Version: 4.1.22-standard

Apache: 1.3.39 (Unix)

I tried importing the oscommerce.sql file into my database, and it worked - the tables are there. But now I don't know what to do with the rest of the installation process.

My catalog folder is below my root (so it's http://online.exofire.net/catalog/). And everything appears to be uploaded ok.

I've also chmodded includes/config.php to 777 as per the instruction manual.

I'm not too good with posting screenshots and the like, sorry! But you can see my installation page here: http://online.exofire.net/catalog/install/

Thanks for your reply :-)

PS: I'm not really SQL literate. Bout 1% SQL literate! I basically just know how to open phpmyadmin, import data from files, change values (learnt that in my days of editing copyright messages out lol), add tables (I think), and delete stuff (tho not always intentionally). I don't really know all the SQL terms and jargon and stuff.

My documentation says on page 9, please follow all the instructions then have a sense of humour failure that it hasn't worked.

(How many people have clicked on your link and started to reinstall oscommerce on your site?)

Click the "Continue" button.

You are nearly finished!

Rename the catalog/install folder or delete it.

Reset the permissions on /catalog/includes/configure.php to 644 (if you are still getting

the warning message at the top set configure.php to 444 which is read only - this happens

on some servers that have been updated for security reasons).

Set the permissions on /catalog/images directory to 777.

Reset the permissions on /catalog/admin/includes/configure.php to 644.

Create the dir /catalog/admin/backups and set the permissions to 777.

Set the permissions on /catalog/admin/images/graphs directory to 777.

You need to .htaccess your /catalog/admin directory so that it is password protected. You

can use the password manager in your server admin area like cpanel.

Congratulations! Now you are really done!

The continue button is my problem! The silly thing gets stuck on the "database structure is being imported" message... and gives me a turnign cog animation until I close the window... I'll have a word with the hosting company, maybe they can shed some light on it.

(nobody can reinstall it - they don't know my SQL info)

I have the same problem -- the database gets created, but the install program freezes up. Running WAMP 2.0 on Windows Vista(yuck) For a test and control site. If I delete install, I gwet cant find database errors, new to 2.2, need to learn where all the files are still!
