Please Help a Newbe

I deleted many of the countries because I did not plan on shipping internationally. Things have changed and I need to put some of them back in. In the admin area, I found where you do this. I found the ISO Country Codes on the ISO website. So, I can add those with no problem. I just cannot figure out the what the difference is in the "Address Formats" #1, #2, ...etc. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between Address Formats #1, #2, #3 etc? Thanks
