Different Product Listing per category

Hi, i really hope someone can help me out here...

 

I have 4 categories that i want to display the products as a simple table, wihtout images and with out the link to the product description page.

For example.. there will be colums for name, price weight and a add to cart link.

 

I have tried using a basic SQLQuery to select the items from the database by it seem to be more complicated to access the database than i thought.

 

I would really appreciate any help, for example if some one already has some simple code to get products out of the database i would be really gratefull.
