This is my first osCommerce store. I would love feedback.

Couple of quick comments.

  • The store is not live
  • The only products are in the test product category
  • We are working on the merchant setup, so if you go through checkout use the money-order / check option.
  • We have used ajax in several areas within the product page and within the checkout.

The store is called: The Wedding Printer

The store will have: Wedding Invitations, Wedding Favors and other wedding related items.

thank you for your assistance in advance.

jeff

It is amazing what you can do with osCommerce. You just have to get in there and have some fun.

Google ads will go when I go live. I placed google ads during the interim when the site is active, but the shop is not live. Allows me to make a couple dollars while developing the store.

Yes, the text block at the bottom. I have gone back and forth on that. I have had it black text on the background and black text on a white background. I will have to decide before going live.

thank you for the feedback.

Hi jeff,

My comments are in no particular order. Your site was reviewed in Firefox2.0/XP.

SSL on the log-in or creat_account pages. You paid a couple bucks more for that godaddy verification logo. I know I should be able to TRUST your site. (NOTE: My ISP [uSA} tells their members to LOOK for SSL and site verifications and not to give out information on sites that lack these features.)

As a tester I was put off by your "GRAND OPENING COMING SOON" redirect setup. If you ask me to test the site then let me see the site.

Hi Doug,

Thank you for your feedback.

I do apologize, if i mislead you. I tried to be clear in my initial request that the store was not live and the only category that had products was the Test Product Category. I am finishing up the major coding for the site and wanted some feedback, before we started loading all the products.

Regarding the SSL on the log-in/create_account pages. They are all SSL pages, so I do not understand your comment. Can you clarify?

Hi Jeff,

I reread my paragraph and it really wasn't that clear. Sorry about that. My comments on the SSL were positive. Many of the new stores don't have any SSL installed and/or it is not working correctly. Yours worked nicely and you guys went and got the more expensive version of an SSL cert which meant that as soon as I saw the site name as a marquee in the godaddy logo I knew I could TRUST your site.

By the way, Google thinks your site is live. They have either 175 or 1380 or 1410 pages indexed (depending on how you ask).

Hi Doug,

The 3 most important concepts in retail....location, location, location. And online, the only location that matters is page one of the search engines. It takes a large amount of effort to get a store to page one of the search engines. One of the factors search engines look for is domain age, so we launched the site as soon as we finalized the category structure and installed seo urls. This approach will allow us to have our site indexed for 6 weeks before we have products to sell.

Not great for the early customers who show up, but provides a small head start on getting a great location.
