dekh Posted November 25, 2007 Author Posted November 25, 2007 Well at least you didn't say "RTFM" when I haven't even posted any problems  The documentation does seem to be a lot better than elsewhere I've looked. :o Having read the guidelines I promise my best not to be vulgar. :shifty: I might have a problem with "violative of any law" 'cos I have no idea what it means  Though I've ticked the agreement, the comment that a mod can alter my posts is a bit worrying, are such revisions clearly marked? I also promise that I don't normally use this many smilies :D Snatch the pebble from my hand. Welcome, you are starting out on the correct path. The more problems you have and solve, the more you learn.
dekh Posted November 25, 2007 Author Posted November 25, 2007 Violate any law means to do something that is illegal. Welcome, you are starting out on the correct path. The more problems you have and solve, the more you learn. Ahhh, you missed my point 'violate' may well mean that, 'violative' is not a word. Best to have no problems at all. - pretend there is a grinning smilie. Snatch the pebble from my hand. Many thanks to: Fixed Width Site with CSS, Remove Entire Left or Right Side Columns
dekh Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 I stand corrected, as I so frequently am. ", or otherwise violative of any law." Would, perhaps, be better written ", or otherwise violates any law." or ", or would otherwise infringe any law." It would perhaps also be a good idea to say which country's laws apply, with a little investigation one could say Germany. Equally I could assume "England & Wales" but it might be an idea to state which country as someone may decide USA and that has a litigious sub-culture, though the United Kingdom is also drifting that way. Of course it probably says that on the site somewhere and I just missed it :) It was only supposed to be a light hearted post. Many, many smilies were used. Snatch the pebble from my hand. I realise it was light hearted, and I thought it as a typo until I checked. I suppose the laws that apply would be where the forum is located. It could be better written, but it is not code (which is all that matters).
♥geoffreywalton Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Looking forward to seeing many creative circumventions preventing any law being "violatived". dekh Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 Looking forward to seeing many creative circumventions preventing any law being "violatived". Cheers G Allow me to be the first to offer Dr. Johnson my most sincere contrafibularities! I am anaspeptic, frasmotic, even compunctuous to have caused him such pericombobulation. ;) Now then Geoffrey, as the links in your sig have already saved me about 3 days effort, could you point me at a thread discussing converting the table structure of osC to CSS I've found bits relating to individual boxes but nothing all-encompassing, and (if this isn't pushing it) any threads reviewing some of the osC books available. I can see one about the cookbook but the thread bombs out for me telling me to register so I can't read it. (Probably FireFox) Many thanks. Snatch the pebble from my hand. ♥geoffreywalton Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Lazy g**, dang, someone has spotted all my answers are based on my links. I haven't found a thread covering converting to css, but haven't really searched for it. The STS, http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/1524, seems to be a popular templating system with a support thread at http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58541 Already had my wrists slapped, and rightly so, for having a link to a site advertising services so will send comments on books via other means. Might be a good idea to ask the question in a new thread, I promise not to reply RTFM Need help installing add ons/contributions, cleaning a hacked site or a bespoke development, check my profile Virus Threat Scanner My Contributions Basic install answers. I put it before the house: upon reflection, it is my considered opinion that those 4 letters are the biggest barrier to the take up of a new product. :'( Cheers Snatch the pebble from my hand. spax Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I put it before the house: upon reflection, it is my considered opinion that those 4 letters are the biggest barrier to the take up of a new product. :'( Only if you don't intend to RTFM
dekh Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 Only if you don't intend to RTFM Ahh, but if someone is asking for help it would be better to be a bit more specific in directing the the person in need. All too often in Lin... other forums the answer comes back as a simple "RTFM" which as a post is a waste of time. Indeed not far short of forum spam. If you don't know the answer, obviously don't post. If you aren't prepared to help someone in need don't post. Posting RTFM is quite frankly vulgar. But that is just my humble opinion. spax Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Agreed that if a question asked was not covered by a manual or if the manual is written in geek, then RTFM is quite useless. However, if you read through this and no doubt Lin.... other forums, you will surely find reams of questions that have not only been answered, time and time again but have been adequately covered by the manual. I think this is the catalyst of all frustrations, that lead to RTFM answers. Although to be fair, I don't see that answer too often on this board.

Quite true, though if you are new to a subject you will ask questions that will have been asked many times already, but being new to the subject you will also find it difficult to find the answers and even find it difficult to phrase the questions to find the answers. I've seen other peoples posts replied to in this manner and my first reaction is always "What a jerk" and that is usually followed by "Bet he's still a virgin." not sure why but there you go... :) I'm off to pose a question about SSL. Gosh hope I get a decent response! Snatch the pebble from my hand. Many thanks to: Fixed Width Site with CSS, Remove Entire Left or Right Side Columns
