The pictures I upload look fine, but the thumbnails look all squished together and unclear. I searched the forums and changed my settings to:Images

Small Image Width 0

Small Image Height 75

Heading Image Width 57

Heading Image Height 40

Subcategory Image Width 100

Subcategory Image Height 57

Calculate Image Size true

Image Required false

This only worked for some pictures. Here's my site, the top sections thumbnails are still unclear while the bottom section got clear.

What should I do?

Hi,

It seems that osCommerce is not the best at handling thumbnails. By adopting a trial and error approach, I managed to arrive at a solution that works more or less OK for me (though strong diagonals in my images are sill a bit broken).

This is what I did:

First, I cropped all the imaged into a square. Square images are less prone to get distorted once they are transformed into a thumbnail.

Then, I saved all the imaged intended for osCommerce in a rather small size: up to 350 pixels, because I found that big images get more distorted when they are minimised into a thumbnail.

And lastly, I made my thumbnails bigger: I have set my small image height at 140 pixels (just like you, I have left the width empty, for osCommerce to calculate proportionally).

I would suggest to make all the images (including category and subcategory ones) square, make them much smalles (mine are 40 pixels) - and to set one dimension only (for exapmle, height) in the Admin-Configuration-Images view.

You may check to look at http://feshop.co.za/catalog/index.php

I had the problem of OSCommerce messing up the small images but i just entered x instead of giving a specific figure and it displays the images at whatever resolution they are instead of resizing them.
